Student Recruitment & Scholarship Program

Our Goal Recruit at least three new students and raise at least $10,000 yearly to support the Student Recruitment and Scholarship Program.

During the past 55 years, Dayton Tuskegee Alumni Club has been actively recruiting local students from the Dayton Metropolitan Area to attend Tuskegee University. Annual scholarships are awarded to these students for up to five years as long as they maintain at least a 2.5 or greater grade point average (GPA) and submits a new application for approval. Students receiving scholarships from DTAC are required to be active members of the Tuskegee University Pre Alumni Club.. In addition to scholarships awarded, “Care Package(s) or gift cards are given to every student at the beginning of each school year to defray costs of personal items needed while traveling or relocating to Tuskegee University.

Since establishment in 1965, DTAC has awarded over $275,000.00 in scholarships to approximately 300 students from the Dayton Metropolitan Area. Individual scholarship awards are determined annually based upon the number of students attending that year and available funding raised or donated. Scholarship awards are greater for new students and lessor for returning students. In recent years, new students have received $2000.00 and returning students have received $1500.00 each.

DTAC Scholarship Program is supported largely by two annual major fundraising events. These annual events are Derby Day Party during May and Soul Food Extravaganza during October. In recent years, additional funding has been donated by member(s) for students who have excelled in their career field study.

Scholarship Requirements

How Do I Apply

Students will complete the DTAC scholarship application via the DTAC website daytontuskegeealumni.org.
Those choosing not to submit via the website will print the application, scan and email the completed and signed application to: DTAC1961@aol.com or mail to the chairperson’s address : Mr.Bob Elam, 4276 Brumbaugh Blvd., Dayton, Ohio 45416. Electronic submission is preferred.
Criteria

The applicant must be a resident of the Dayton area or neighboring communities as defined in the DTAC By-laws and a graduating high school senior or transfer student.
• Have a minimum overall GPA of > 2.5, ACT minimum score 18, SAT minimum score 1000
• Must be a full-time undergraduate
• Must provide a current transcript
• Must provide a copy of the TU acceptance letter and ID# (incoming students)
• Must provide a list of TU and other awarded scholarships; if applicable
• Must provide a personal statement to include their academic and career goals and how this
scholarship will benefit them. Must be a member of the Pre-alumni club during their sophomore, junior and senior years at TU
• Must maintain GPA > 2.5 as a returning student
